For Dale Partis Greene, painting is all about the experience. “For me, the process of creating a beautiful artwork is both satisfying and compelling.” Having grown up in New England, Partis Greene’s love for the nature around her has shaped who she is as an artist. “My purpose in painting a landscape or a more abstract work is not to recreate a scene, but to reconnect with the sense of joy and freedom which is inspired by our natural world.” While Partis Greene usually paints landscapes inspired by the world around her, she says that it isn’t really what she is painting that matters. “I'm most interested in shapes and edges, so the subject really doesn't matter,” she tells me. Partis Greene’s love of painting, especially whilst using her favorite medium, oil paints, stems from how she feels while painting. For her the process of painting is more important than the finished project. “My favorite moments are when I am so absorbed in the process that the world disappears. That's when I discard my reference and paint from my own creativity. It's kind of transcendental.”
Partis Greene believes that everyone is an artist in their own way. “Most people have artistic talent of some kind even if they don't realize it. Everyone has a friend who always looks so put together, knows a great storyteller, appreciates music or dance, loves to cook or garden. It's part of human nature, and people who love being creative work hard at it.”
For Dale Partis Greene, being an artist is about working hard to expand upon that creativity to better herself as an artist. Partis Greene takes the old saying, ‘if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again’. She takes this motto to heart when she pushes her boundaries as an artist. When trying new things, Partis Greene believes that you should keep an open mind. “Sometimes the painting turns out well and lots of times it doesn't. I think it's a way to move your boundaries and see what you can do.” While Partis Greene admits that sometimes it can be a challenge when her paintings don’t turn out the way she wanted, she realized it’s all part of the experience. “What's important is trying, learning, and beginning again. It’s challenging but it’s fun!”
Dale Partis Greene draws her inspiration from many artists, including some very close to home. This includes artist such as Richard McKinley, Dennis Sheehan, Lully Schwartz and recently Nella Lush. “There are so many artists right at NAA whose work I admire and am moved by - those who see beyond the subject and elicit meaning and feeling through their inspired personal style.”
Partis Greene has been a member of the NAA for many years, but she is also a member of the Rockport Art Association & Museum, the Newburyport Ten Plein Air Painters, a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists, the Concord Art Association, The Plein Air Painters of New Hampshire, the Olde Lyme Art Association, and is an associate artist at the North Shore Arts Association. Dale has been invited to exhibit her work at the Alynn Lyman Art Museum in New London, Ct. She has multiple shows coming up as well. This includes The Newburyport Ten Plein Air Painters FIG show which will be at the NAA from July 31st through August 12th, and will be holding a reception reception Friday, August 3rd, 6:00 to 8:00pm. Partis Greene also has a solo show through June 31st at the Exeter Hospital (located in Exeter, New Hampshire).
Besides this, the NAA is very excited to be hosting a featured artist exhibit for Partis Greene from June 19th through the 24th, with a reception Friday the 22nd 6:00 to 8:00pm. Partis Greene says that the exhibit, entitled ‘Counterpoint’ is a “reflection of the breaking of tradition through diversity in unity of color and style”. Partis Greene says that while she was at first daunted by the idea of filling the Hills Gallery (especially with another solo show happening at the same time), she has fully embraced it. By displaying work that is both traditional and more experimental Partis Greene says that she hopes to have but together both a diverse and interesting show. “I've used soft color here, a dash of bold there. ‘Mountain Stream’ has strong contrast, ‘Beach Necklace’ is soft and serene, and ‘Spring!’ is a large, joyful, nearly abstract painting. I can't really stick to one kind of painting for long - I love mixing it up.” Despite this, Partis Greene has been able to present a sense of harmony by choosing paintings that were similarly sized and have similar frames. “I've achieved a degree of unity that is pleasing, to me at least!”
